In the spirit of World Cup crazyness let’s get familiar with Afrikaans language

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

It’s my first post and I will blog on a subject that is on the mind of billions of people.

No, I’m not going to predict who’s going to win.

I just want to give a small glimpse of the culture and particularly of spoken languages in South Africa.

Theare are many of them and for now I will just talk about one – Afrikaans. Watch this nice music video from Lianie May called Jy Soen My Nie Meer Nie

Why does it sound so German you ask ? Well Afrikaans traces it’s origins from Dutch and about 13% of South African population speak it!

I created an Afrikaans study set for Sing And Study software to improve your listening comprehension and just have fun !
